BREATHING CHAPARRAL | JOURNAL

Inhaling steadily, exhaling gently into the fieriness of developing Manzanita skin and glistening like Mountain Mahogany.

Meet Buckwheat that travelled miles from a field near the Kern River. Berries that were living in Laguna Beach. Walnut Husk from a farm in Yucaipa and Ash that was left homeless.

Dear Ash,

This is your line.

A line of ideas and creativity.

This sacred simple line.

Sure, it looks like just a line.

But it’s full of your history

and your wisdom

and your experiences.

Remind yourself and them,

this is your line

even if your name isn’t on it,

your name is all over it.

No one can take it from you

No matter how many people they

draw in with their own line.

This one is all you and deep down if they

have a respectful heart

they will leave you and your line alone.

Warmly,

Mom
